Cryptocurrency exposure at banks across the Americas has undergone a notable rebalancing, with Bitcoin’s dominance in reported digital-asset risk falling sharply while Ethereum and other altcoins have gained ground, according to the latest data from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS).
The figures show Bitcoin’s share of banks’ crypto asset exposure in the Americas dropped to 44.2% from 75.8% in the previous reporting period. Over the same stretch, Ethereum climbed to 38.5%, putting it within striking distance of Bitcoin’s weighting. Solana accounted for 7.8% of exposure, while XRP represented 5.6%.
