X will not support cryptocurrency trading within its application with its Smart Cashtags feature, the social media platform’s head of product  says.

“X is not handling trade execution or acting as a brokerage,” Nikita Bier said on Feb. 14 on X. “Just building the financial data tools and links.”

Bier’s remarks came in response to speculation following a post that day in which he said Smart Cashtags would enable users “to trade stock and crypto directly from [the app’s] timeline.” In that post, he also said the feature is set to launch “in a couple of weeks.”
