Westlake Police body cam shows victim sending hundreds of dollars in crypto scam
WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – Westlake Police shared new body cam footage of a scam victim as a warning to others who could fall victim to a similar crime.
In the video from an incident from last April, the victim was found feeding hundred-dollar bills into a crypto-exchange machine at a Center Ridge Road gas station.
The victim was still on the phone with the scammer by the time officers arrived. At first, she didn’t even trust officers when they explained to her she was being scammed.
“Turns out that morning she received a pop up on her computer,” explained Captain Gerald Vogel, “of course the pop up provided the phone number for her to call.”
This isn’t the first cryptocurrency-based scam Westlake Police has encountered this year.
