Vault: Senate Ag sets stage for crypto vote

The Senate Agriculture Committee is moving forward with a markup of landmark crypto legislation on Thursday. The two-day punt, tied to the Senate’s delayed return to Washington, sets up real legislative action for the digital asset sector after months of fits and starts.

But even then, this markup will be weird. Like the Senate Banking Committee, the Ag panel’s latest draft does not have the bipartisan agreement it will need to get across the Senate floor. At the same time, a bipartisan group of members on the panel is pushing for an amendment vote on credit card swipe fee legislation – one more headache for the banking sector.
