Trump Promotes Family-backed Crypto Project Amid Token Sale Struggles
U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took to X (formerly Twitter) late Tuesday to promote World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a decentralized finance (DeFi) project backed by his family.
Trump’s endorsement followed underwhelming initial sales of the platform’s new WLFI tokens, which fell well short of the ambitious target set for the public sale.
As of Tuesday evening, only $9 million worth of WLFI tokens had been sold, representing just 3% of the total tokens allocated for public purchase. Despite high expectations, the token sale website suffered numerous outages, hampering its ability to track sales volume in real time.
