Tasmania, Australia has found that the top 15 users of crypto ATMs were scam victims. The Tasmania Police Cyber Investigations found that they lost a total of $1.6 million to scammers, according to a report by Coin Telegraph.
“Victims are being manipulated, intimidated and pressured into investing in fake investment and romance scams,” Paul Turner, detective sergeant for the Tasmanian police, said in the report.
Australia is currently the third largest country for bitcoin ATMs, with more than 1,890 ATMs online. Australia has already responded to these scams by putting in place daily limits on transactions. New Zealand, meanwhile has completely banned crypto ATMs.
