Russia caps home-based crypto mining electricity use at 6,000 kWh per month
4th November 2024 – (Moscow) The Russian government has introduced new regulations limiting monthly electricity usage for “private” or “home-based” cryptocurrency mining to 6,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Effective from 1st November, these measures formalise the legal status of crypto mining in Russia under two newly enacted laws.
According to reports from RBC, miners consuming more than the stipulated amount will be required to obtain a special “individual entrepreneurial” license from the Federal Tax Service. Those operating within the limit of 6,000 kWh will not need to register their activities with the government, thus maintaining a degree of operational anonymity.
