MetaMask, the non-custodial Ethereum wallet developed by Consensys, introduced a “Social login” option on Aug. 26 that allows users to create, back up and restore wallets with their Google or Apple credentials.

The update removes the need to manually store a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase by generating it in the background and encrypting it so that only the account holder can retrieve it with the same social login and a personal password. MetaMask said neither it nor the identity providers can access the recovery data, maintaining full self-custody for users.
