Lunch Wrap: ASX stays weirdly calm as Fed looms; Washington spooks crypto

The S&P/ASX 200 was up by 0.2% at lunchtime on Wednesday in Sydney, which feels almost suspiciously calm given what’s going on everywhere else.

The big one is the Fed, which lands at 4am AEST tomorrow morning. Markets reckon there’s roughly a 90% chance of a rate hike, so nobody’s exactly settling in for a peaceful night.

Brent crude is still lurking around US$105, while gold has slipped to around US$4290 an ounce.

Bitcoin also took a bit of a body shot last night.
