Criminals are turning to stablecoins that are pegged to the US dollar to safeguard their ill-gotten gains from crypto’s volatile price fluctuations, the Australian Federal Police’s only cryptocurrency forensic accountant says.
Since taking up the role in 2022, Abigail Gibson’s days are spent poring over different blockchains searching for clues to assist criminal investigations and the AFP’s Criminal Asset Confiscation Taskforce, which has frozen $65 million in cryptocurrency assets since July.
