A House cryptocurrency taxation roundtable is generating momentum towards forging bipartisan legislation by year’s end, tax writers in attendance said Thursday.

A majority of House Ways and Means Committee lawmakers from both parties attended the members-only discussion, which featured practitioners, academics and finance industry officials. The panel fielded questions on a range of topics on how tax writers can protect consumers against financial risk to making sure the digital currency can’t be used to fund criminal activity.
