Hostplus is considering whether to give members access to cryptocurrency through its Choiceplus platform, in what would mark a rare move by a major APRA-regulated super fund into digital assets.
The proposal, first reported by Bloomberg this week, would place any crypto exposure inside the fund’s self-directed Choiceplus offering rather than its core diversified options.
Bloomberg reported Hostplus chief investment officer Sam Sicilia said the fund had received direct requests from members seeking access to cryptocurrency.
“There’s certainly a demand from some of our members who write in and say, ‘Why can’t I have access to cryptocurrency?’” Sicilia said.
