Police arrested the woman at her home on Monday, alleging she was a core member of the cryptocurrency scam syndicate, the South China Morning Post reported. Investigators said she persuaded victims to transfer money into cryptocurrency wallets before helping the group steal the funds.

According to the Western district crime squad, the suspect contacted two victims who were separately advertising an apartment and a parking space for rent. She allegedly offered to pay rent in advance to gain their trust before introducing what she claimed was a high-return cryptocurrency investment opportunity.

To make the scheme appear legitimate, she gave each victim a mobile phone preloaded with a cryptocurrency investment app.
