ETH News: ETH co-founder Vitalik Buterin now supports “copyleft” open-source licenses, shifting from his previous permissive approach to software licensing.
Copyleft licenses require users to open-source any derivative work using the original code, unlike permissive licenses that allow free modification without reciprocal sharing.
Buterin argued the crypto space has become “more competitive and mercenary,” making voluntary code sharing less reliable.
“We are less able than before to count on people open-sourcing their work purely out of niceness,” he wrote in a Monday blog post.
