Crypto ignored in the federal budget, again
Last year we saw the first ever mention of cryptocurrency in a Labor budget. The Albanese government set $7.5 million aside for long overdue regulatory framework for digital assets.
This year, we have returned to our regular scheduled program of absolutely nothing.
And that may be due to some recent movement in the Australian crypto space.
However, it’s first worth noting that in 2024, we also didn’t see a specific mention of “cryptocurrency” or “blockchain” in the budget papers. Instead, there was a reference to “digital currencies”, “tokenisation” and “decentralised finance”.
