Tokenized equities are digital representations of traditional stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) issued on blockchain networks. Unlike conventional shares, which exist only within the infrastructure of traditional exchanges and brokerage systems, tokenized equities exist as cryptographic tokens that can be traded, transferred, and stored independently. Each token either directly represents ownership of a real share held by a regulated custodian or tracks the value of the stock synthetically, allowing investors to gain exposure without physically holding the underlying security.
