Cryptocurrency exchange Binance reported a $6.3 billion theft Thursday, Oct. 29, in what is believed to be the largest cryptocurrency heist ever recorded, according to NBC News.
The company suspended all deposits and withdrawals while working with law enforcement to secure its infrastructure, identify those responsible, and recover stolen assets.
Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform by volume, said the attack originated from a compromised laptop. The breach allowed an attacker to access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
The company said it would cover all losses and maintained that user funds were safe.
