Illinois is moving to postpone compliance with its first-in-the-nation tax on digital assets by six months under an agreement with a cryptocurrency trade group that had filed a constitutional challenge to the tax.

The Illinois Department of Revenue and the Chamber of Digital Commerce Thursday filed an agreed motion for preliminary injunction that shifts the effective date for the novel tax from Jan. 1, 2027 to July 1, 2027.
