Anchorage Digital Backs Lawsuit to Block Illinois Crypto Tax

Federally chartered cryptocurrency bank Anchorage Digital submitted a declaration to a court in support of a lawsuit that aims to block an Illinois law that will tax crypto when it is exchanged, transferred or held in storage, the company said in a Tuesday (Sept. 8) blog post.

The lawsuit was brought by the Blockchain Association and the Crypto Council for Innovation. It targets an Illinois law, the Digital Asset Tax Act, that is set to take effect Jan. 1, 2027, according to the post.

Anchorage Digital’s declaration tells the court how the new tax created by the law would hurt the company’s business and its customers, per the post.
