Brazil’s central bank is imposing a mandatory delay of up to 24 hours on certain cryptocurrency transfers exceeding $10,000, a move it says is designed to combat the rising use of digital assets in financial scams.
Announced on Thursday, the new anti-fraud regulation targets transfers sent to overseas virtual asset service providers and self-custody wallets. The threshold applies to both individual transactions and the cumulative daily volume moved by a single customer. The rule is set to take effect in 2027, giving financial institutions and crypto platforms time to adjust their monitoring systems.
