NRG Energy (NRG) Stock Price Sinks On Texas Weakness And Capex Fears

NRG Energy went into this earnings print as a high expectation stock after a strong multi‑quarter run. The market did not like what it saw at first glance. The share price dropped about 15% today to roughly US$117, extending pressure that had already built over the past three months.

The headline from the quarter is profit strength. Basic earnings per share of about US$2.32 and adjusted EBITDA of US$1.2b in the quarter, combined with over US$1b in free cash flow before growth, underline that NRG Energy is generating substantial cash even as the stock sells off.
