South Korea’s government plans to impose a 22% tax on annual crypto gains that exceed 2.5 million won ($1,740 U.S).
The Asian nation will start taxing crypto gains on Jan. 1, 2027.
The tax has been proposed and delayed several times since 2022. But South Korea’s government says further delays are unlikely.

“We are pushing forward with the plan to tax cryptocurrency starting next year as scheduled,” said South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister Koo Yun-cheol.
Going forward, income from transferring or lending crypto will be taxed separately as “other income.”
