BIRN has identified multiple crypto-exchange channels on Telegram and online forums operating across the Balkans or exclusively in Montenegro.
Membership of these channels ranges from a few dozen to several thousand; listings include the amount to be exchanged, rates, commission, and the precise location where a transfer will take place.
The Russian-language Telegram group Обмен Валют Montenegro [Currency Exchange Montenegro] is particularly popular for direct crypto-for-cash swaps, with more than 7,000 members.
The group advises users to trade “only in person, in public places, with all necessary precautions”, though it says online deals can be made with dealers bearing a mark proving they have been verified by the group…
