US stocks ended their worst day in almost five years on Thursday, with investors rattled by President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the looming prospect of a bruising global trade war.
The market cratered at the open, with the sell-off gaining steam throughout the session. By the closing bell, the S&P 500 had lost nearly 5%, its worst single-day loss since June 2020.
