Student accommodation in the Greater Paris – Grand Paris Metropolis – Analysis of the existing stock and production dynamics

Over a period of 20 years, Grand Paris gained 134,000 additional, residential students. Their numbers increased by more than 40% between 1999 and 2019. 550,000 students declare to be  registered in institutions within Grand Paris and 467,000 live there.

Among resident students 54% still live with their parent(s) and 46% are in independant lodgings compared with 52% in 1999. This increasingly late moving away from the family home is mainly due to the fall in the private rental stock, the competition of other tenants putting students at a disadvantage and the difficulty of access to specifically dedicated lodgings in a national context of insufficient, affordable housing as a result of a long period of rising…
