A crypto-trader accused of murdering his mother after taking out three life insurance policies worth $1.15 million in her name has denied he killed her — instead claiming she had asked him to shop around for the best deal as she wasn’t “savvy” online.
Taking the stand at his Supreme Court trial on Monday, Andre Rebelo admitted he had not just forged documents but also lied to police, his three siblings, his then-partner Gracie Piscopo and “many employees of the insurance companies”.
“There were numerous people,” Rebelo said, and even detailed a fifth dishonesty offence that was ultimately dropped.
